The International Bar Association appoints Madrid Bar member Almudena Arpón de Mendívil as Secretary-General
Madrid Bar member Almudena Arpón de Mendívil has been appointed new Secretary-General of the International Bar Association, the world’s leading organisation in the legal sector which gathers approximately 190 bar associations and law societies from numerous jurisdictions.

Almudena Arpón de Mendívil, Director of the Corporate Technology, Media and Telecommunications Group at Gómez-Acebo & Pombo, has been a member of the IBA for more than 20 years and has held the roles of Treasurer and Chair of the Legal Practice Division of the Association. The IBA Council, of which Ms Arpón de Mendívil has been a member since 2009, elected her as Secretary-General during the Annual Conference held in Rome in October 2018.

As she declared to the media, for Almudena Arpón de Mendívil “this appointment is an achievement for the entire Spanish legal sector; it is a high-level acknowledgement of the Spanish legal practice in its distinct areas: undoubtedly, of the international Spanish legal profession, but also of its academic, judicial and institutional fields”.

Dean José María Alonso, representing the Madrid legal profession, wants to express the honour of having this position occupied by a Madrid Bar member, and to send Ms. Arpón de Mendívil his best wishes to face this new professional challenge.
