Board member María Segimón represented the Madrid Bar at the ABA Annual Meeting 2018 in Chicago
The Board member responsible for International Affairs at the Madrid Bar, Ms. María Segimón, accompanied by the Dean of the Barcelona Bar and President of the International Section of the General Council of Spanish Bars, María Eugenia Gay, attended the ABA Annual Meeting 2018 which took place last August in Chicago.

The Meeting served as an opportunity to strengthen the cooperation with the members of the International Section of the American Bar Association (ABA), as well as to verify the interest of various American Law firms in establishing long-term relationships to share knowledge on areas of common interest, such as professional secrecy, new technologies, international arbitration and mediation, among other issues.

Board member María Segimón also used the opportunity of the ABA Annual Meeting 2018 to hold work meetings with partners of various American law firms with office in Chicago, including Mayer Brown, Hinshaw o Kirkland & Ellis, interested in signing cooperation agreements with the Madrid Bar in order to develop programs to promote international internships for young lawyers in American law firms (and viceversa).

In this context, it is important to mention the Board member's meeting with the members of the International Section of the ABA, with whom the signing of a cooperation agreement contemplating internships for young lawyers was decided, as well as the possibility to process special visas for this purpose before the American authorities.

After holding these fruitful meetings in Chicago, Board member María Segimón considered the Meeting "very satisfactory", as the contacts that were made will contribute, on medium and long-term, to benefit the Madrid Bar in areas related to legal education as well as to become an international place of Arbitration and an important Bar association at international level.
